Halle (Saale), Germany2025

ReUseCases aims at developing comprehensive systems of designing and evaluating Projects focussing on reused Building Parts of german "Block" Precast buildings.

A suitable Site and partial Demontage Project was chosen, located in Halle-Neustadt, the biggest Precast City area of Europe. Through the quantification of the demontage and deposal of the renovation project, an alternative Reuse Scenario is imagined. The central Questions asked:

1. What would have been safed if we hadnt ground down and thrown away those Parts?

2. How much ,,Building" could we have built from these Parts and at what constraints?

3. What tools and scientific feedback are necessary to handle all the data? What does an architect of today need to Design new, valuable built environment from these parts?

In this Project I bring in a comprehensive system of evaluating resulting emissions, costs and construction phases of this undertaking. I research on Phases and bottlenecks of this sort of integrated, City-Wide Reuse. The resulting workflows and tools are aiming to give some answers of what a planner, a city or an architect needs to know while transfering these parts into new, circular loadbearing systems. The complexities of evaluating CO2 equivalents or of making Design decisions that impact the whole process from Demontage to Refitting are Data-Intensive.

Results of this Project: A. Deep Insight about setting up such systems and necessity for better markets of recycled parts and CO2-Equivalent. B. Usable Grasshopper tools for Nesting, Evolutionary Design Optimization. C. Example Project with full workflow documentation.
